Spinal Decompression: Exercises

1) Overhead Stretch: Stand with your feet slightly wider than your shoulders. Link your fingers and flip your hands so your palms are away from you. Press your palms forward and sweep your arms up over your head, stretching from your hips up through your palms. Hold and stretch through 5 deep breaths.

2) Countertop Stretch: Stand 18 inches back from the countertop and grip the edge of the sink. Place your feet together and bend, holding your weight on the countertop and extend your tailbone behind you. Hold and stretch for 20 seconds.

3) Cat/Cow: Get on all fours on the floor. Lift your head to the ceiling and lower your belly button, curling your spine down. Then lower the top of your head and draw your navel up tight, arching your spine up. Take care to control this exercise and work slowly. Your muscles should control the intensity of the arch.

4) Prayer Stretch/Child Pose: From all fours, lower your bottom to your heels. Extend your hands as far in front of your head as you can comfortably reach. Hold for 20 seconds, then sweep your arms to your sides. Lower your forehead as close to the floor as possible to stretch your neck. Hold for 20 more seconds.
